If you’ve been around the gaming business long enough, you’ll recognize the name of Giant Bomb, the once gaming website that broke ground on premium video content and podcasts, something quite mundane on Youtube today.
After what seemed like a troubling future for Giant Bomb with the recent announcements of Jeff Grubb and Dan Ryckert leaving after disputes between the two, it seems that Fandom has sold the site back to the original staff.
Long time staff members; Jeff Grubb, Jeff Bakalar, Dan Ryckert, Mike Minotti and Jan Ochoa, from the site have successfully made the purchase from Fandom. The announcement came at the annual PAX-East gaming convention.
With the new purchase comes the increase in monthly subscription pricing from the original five to now ten dollars a month. A statement was made by Grubb “that money now goes to us”.
Fandom released a statement from the announcement:
“Fandom has made the strategic decision to transition Giant Bomb back to its independent roots and the brand has been acquired by longtime staff and content creators, Jeff Bakalar and Jeff Grubb, who will now own and operate the site independently.
Fans are at the core of everything we do at Fandom and we’re committed to not only serving them but also supporting the creators they love, and the sale of Giant Bomb represents a natural extension of that mission. We’re confident Giant Bomb is in good hands and its legacy will live on with Jeff and Jeff.”
No mention or disclosure of the acquisition price was made.
